I came across her work today and it really reminds me of Audrey Kawasaki’s work from one of my previous posts … I really like them both but there’s starting to be a lot of work like this nowadays.

I was introduced to Ladislav Sutnar’s work yesterday … and wanted to share it wih everyone …
Ladislav Sutnar was a progenitor of the current practice of information graphics even before famous designers Edward Tufte. He was the man responsible for putting the parentheses around American telephone area code numbers when they were first introduced. I find him extremely inspiring. His workis so simple … and the typography is manipulated to sync perfectly with the imagery …

These are really bad examples of what he’s really about … so check out the website about him here!

Marilyn Minter
Yesterday I had the wonderful opportunity to attended a lecture by Marilyn Minter. She talked us through her career, starting with the very first photographs she took of her mother and how her work has developed over the years.
The subject matter of her paintings are familiar to all but she expresses them in ways that we normally try to avoid. “It’s a real thing … peoples feet do get dirty even if they are in really expensive shoes and no one really makes an image of that” … through her art she is telling ‘her truth’ by showing what goes wrong rather than the highly touched up images that we see today.
Here are images of some of her work … (can you tell which ones are paintings and which are photographs?)

Guess who this is …

I really love this painting … there’s something about it that touches my heart
♥
I realized that there aren’t many images of her work online … I really liked her 100 food porn series and the work that she does on hardcore pornography especially because she was the first female artist to ever use this subject matter.
“If you have something to say … it will be heard. You might be dead but it will be heard” — Marilyn Minter
